Traveling to Norway: An Interview With My Dad

7.02.24

By: Shariah James

My dad recently went on a two-week trip to Norway, and I had to get the scoop for The Kléi. Keep reading to see why its rich culture and scenic views may be the next trip listed on your bucket list.

What was the best part of your trip?

Traveling to different cities and seeing the layout of the country.

What surprised you most on your trip?

The sun never goes down – it’s (up) 20-hours a day!

What was your favorite touristy thing you did?

Their museum was really cool, and it was in Oslo - which is the capital. All their Norwegian history is what I really like. It was nice.

Anything you wished you would have packed with you that you didn’t?

Cinnamon candy – I couldn’t find any cinnamon candy over there, at all. No peppermints and no cinnamon.

What was the most delicious meal you had during your trip?

Their bread is awesome – homemade - looked like it was straight out of a store, and it was delicious.

What advice would you give someone going there for the first time?

Travel around Norway. Their roads are so curvy, you have to go through mountains and tunnels – you get to see all kinds of stuff.

Were there any unexpected challenges you faced during your vacation?

To get to some of the things you want to see there – you have to hike 4 or 5 miles up a mountain – you have to be prepared for it. Pack your lunch and pack your water.

How did the experience change or impact you in a positive way?

How beautiful it is over there – there is no way you can’t believe in God.

Did you try any new activities or experiences that you had never done before?

I went to a Viking reenactment – it was a whole Viking festival. Everybody was a Viking. They had the tents set up and were really living like them.

What was the most surprising thing you learned about Norwegian culture?

It was very family orientated – they are so close (knit) in their neighborhoods and communities.

What was your favorite place that you visited in Norway?

I actually liked Stavanger! Everything was easy to get around.

How did the surroundings or the environment in Norway make you feel?

Like I was breathing better – it was really clean.

What recommendations would you give to someone planning a similar trip?

To spend as much time as you can there.

Travel far and travel wide - exposure leads to expansion! Safe travels!

XO,

The Kléi
