7 Things to Know Before Traveling to Bali

Bali is one of the most magical destinations on earth. If you’re thinking about visiting the island, this blog is a must read!

Things to know:

1.) Bali has two main seasons.

The First Season is The Wet Season, generally from October to March.

The Second Season is The Dry Season, from March to September (the best time to visit Bali).

2.) All tourists must purchase a Visa.

All tourists arriving in Bali (no matter how long their stay on the island) must apply and show proof of their visa purchase at customs or they will be denied entry into the country.

3.) Most Balinese-Style homes have open common areas.

A lot of Balinese-style homes/villas have open common areas - meaning the kitchens, living rooms and dining rooms are completely open to the outside and do not have any central air conditioning. With that, bugs are frequently found in these areas. If you desire a bug free stay, be sure to book a place that is fully enclosed.

4.) Visa & Mastercard are widely accepted in Bali.

Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted in Bali, but in the more remote areas they usually only take IDR (Indonesia's currency), so you'll definitely want to bring some cash with you to exchange at the airport or bank, or plan to use ATMs to withdraw IDR. Be sure to stray away from using ATM’s in dark alleys as well as back-alley money exchange places to avoid getting swindled.

5.) English is widely spoken in Bali.

Since English is widely spoken on the island, it's really easy to communicate with others and get help if you ever need it. Balinese people are very welcoming and will help you as much as they can.

6.) Do not point at anything with your foot or toe.

Balinese consider pointing with your toe or foot to be very, very rude. I was on an excursion and we had to take our shoes off before entering the place and I asked the tour guide if I could place my shoes “here” (while pointing to an open spot on the ground with my toe) and it seemed like everyone around was starring at me in disgust, hahah - so try your best to be cognizant of this!

7.) Download the apps “Gojek” and “Grab”.

These two apps are international versions of Lyft and Uber/Uber Eats. You can conveniently order transportation, food, and groceries through these apps and it makes life SO much easier while in Bali!
